Bes server setup exchange 2003
We have 3 blackberry users altogether, 2 of which are working fine. It is just this one user who cannot activate his blackberry.
The logs are littered with BESadmin agent 1: will not restart but i have googled for ages and not found anything. We have tried a factory reset of the phone, reinstall of the activation app, upgrade of BESx to SP4, a complete reinstall of BESx and removing and readding his account numerous times.
Having search the error i also found lots of blackberry articles with "fixes" that haven't worked. There was even an exchange checklist which i followed through but to no avail. All that happens when i try to activate it is that on the screen of the blackberry it says contacting server and then times out with failed activation.
I think when it activates it sends an email to the users inbox, and then attempts to delete it to verify connectivity. The user has confirmed that the email is received, but it never gets deleted and eventually his inbox is full of these activation emails!
We are running exchange off a server, and the problem Blackberry model is a Curve If the activation email arrives in the user's account, but it gets never picked up, then the BES can not either access the user's mailbox, or it has no permission to collect the email. Check the agent log for type errors when the user starts up. I would expect something like. The user will also show as "started up in the Agetn log like. Before you try to enterprise activate again, remove all the previous EA emails from the user's inbox.
However, this error is reporting for users whos Blackberry's are actually working! BES also has permissions on the users mailbox as we set these globally and it is working for the other 2 blackberry users.
This is the reason I kept my Exchange server around until all of my BB users switches to ugg iPhones. I have done this countless times and if you do this right, you do not have any issues at all. There is no such thing as "BES freaking out the mailboxes".

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just want to make sure this upgrade goes as smooth as possible. Thanks, Joe. David Wilhoit. Join our community to see this answer! Unlock 1 Answer and 9 Comments. Andrew Hancock - VMware vExpert.
