Season 1 was a 30 minute show featuring two Superman segments sandwiched around one Superboy story. Both seasons 2 and 3 featured the same format of two Superman and one Superboy segments, and consisted of both new material and reruns from previous seasons.

Season 4 saw the series return once more to a stand-alone, minute show; and consisted of only previously aired episodes. Add content advisory. Did you know Edit. Despite its success, the series ignited the anger of a group calling itself Action for Children's Television, a grass-roots organization formed in which claimed that it was dedicated to improving the quality of television programming offered to children, due to Superman throwing punches and other action-related violence which the group found objectionable, but which in reality was doing its most to "stupidify down" television that was ostensibly aimed at children but had older viewers who were also interested in it.

As a result, the series was soon cancelled, and future cartoons would not allow for such comic book violence. The series premiered on September 10, as a minute program named The New Adventures of Superman. Robert "Bob" Hastings provided the character voices of both Superboy and the teenaged Clark Kent for all these segments. These segments were all narrated by Ted Knight. It retained both "The New Adventures of Superman" and "The Adventures of Superboy" segments and replaced the "Aquaman" and "guest hero" segments with new "Batman" ones.
